Lefty Loosey

I always love the non-dominant hand challenges. I don't often do it until I get a reminder, so thank you, Diva, for the challenge this week. I decided on Sunday nite to save my next calendar entry for the challenge. When I saw what it was, I immediately wanted to change my mind. I really liked the way the two previous days on the calendar page looked, and I was afraid I would 'mess it up'. As soon as that thought hit my brain, I knew that I HAD to do the challenge with my left hand in the last empty box on the page. I then figured I might as well repeat what had already emerged in the two previous days, to see what it would feel like to do the same thing using my left hand. It was a struggle about a third of the way through, as I had to gently tell my critical voice to take a breather while me and the joy voice had a little fun. Once I let go of the need to control the line, and make it as pretty as I thought the other parts of the page were, I was on my way to some real fun.
Letting go of how it looks makes me much more aware of how it feels. Loosening my hold on the pen helped me release the urge to control it. I went very slowly, not to make a great line, but to feel the line as it emerged from my pen. I love the feeling of the wiggles and wobbles. In seeing some of the other challenge participants' work, I was struck by how delicate and gorgeous the wobbles are. There is real feeling in those lines. Makes me happy to look at every one of them.
Thanks, again Laura. I have to remember to do this one on my own a little more!

Here is the whole page...

And here is the challenge section of the page... if you can't tell, I am in love with Tricia Faraone's Sanibelle tangle.

  1. I'm in love with Sanibelle, too! (Yet I haven't tried it yet...sometime I "save" a tangle until I feel like it's the just-right time to start using it.) You made a great choice to see it through on the same page and to continue the tangles you started...they look wonderful together.

  3. Carole - I love what you wrote, "Letting go of how it looks makes me much more aware of how it feels." I guess that is the Zen part of this whole process, right? I'm going to have a go at it and hope the Zen makes an appearance.

PS - I was drawing Sanibelle incorrectly and figured out it is much better when drawn with the intended steps. ;-)

  5. I agree with you on this 'I went very slowly, not to make a great line, but to feel the line as it emerged from my pen.' I did the same and felt so different from using domination hand, amazing! Well done for using your courage to do it in your diary and it look beautiful!

  6. With the tangle extending to Day 30 from dominant to non is a good comparison how much our had tremor, on a lighter note its like richter scale after a mild quake :) Beautiful!!

  11. Carole, that's so funny, used Sanibelle on my challenge this week before I even had a chance to see what you've done. First time doing that tangle left handed! And wow, yours is wonderful! I think this is my favorite of the challenges, if only I would make myself do it more than once a year!

    1. It's one of my favorite challenges, too, Sadelle. I'm going to do at least one a week if I can. Thanks again for a really fun tangle. It's easy, and it shades up so cool. One of my friends did it in all pencil and it was beautiful!
